A Bit More About Me
Dr. Lindsay Plunkett is a licensed psychologist in New York specializing in clinical neuropsychology within her private practice on Long Island.
Dr. Plunkett grew up in Kansas and completed her undergraduate studies in psychology at Kansas State University. She then moved to NYC, earning her Masters in School Psychology and Doctorate in Psychology from Columbia University. Throughout her doctoral program, she received extensive training within both school and hospital settings. Regarding her school-based placements, she externed at Mott Haven Academy Charter School in the Bronx, Xavier High School in NYC, and Glen Head Elementary School on Long Island. Her clinical placements during her doctoral training included Columbia University Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital, with additional clinical research experience at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. She then completed her full-time, year-long doctoral internship at NYU Langone's Rusk Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine in NYC with a primary focus in pediatrics. She performed her postdoctoral work at Columbia University Medical Center within the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, receiving advanced training in neuropsychological assessment of patients across the lifespan diagnosed with epilepsy and other neurological disorders. Her postdoctoral fellowship also included training in specialized procedures, including the Wada test and intra/extra-operative cortical language mapping, as well as collaboration on research in language and memory.
After fellowship, Dr. Plunkett accepted the position of Assistant Professor of Neuropsychology in the Division of Child Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center. Within this position, her clinical and research activities focused on the neuropsychological evaluation of patients ranging in age from early childhood through young adulthood with acute and chronic neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders. She also served as a supervisor to fellows and doctoral externs.
Not long after the arrival of her second child, Dr. Plunkett made the decision to dedicate her time to private practice closer to home on Long Island. Her background as a practitioner who has worked in both school and complex medical settings gives her a unique expertise that she will utilize to provide families and schools with comprehensive, personalized care. Within her private practice, she offers comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations, executive functioning skill building, cognitive behavioral therapy, and consultation. She also hosts workshops and has been a guest lecturer for parenting organizations. (View the "Events" tab for more information on upcoming events.) Finally, she serves as one of two NHL team neuropsychologists for the NY Islanders.
Dr. Plunkett is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), New York State Association of Neuropsychologists (NYSAN), New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA), National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN), and Long Island Professionals ADHD Consortium (LIPAC).
